Editorial team
Editorial team and review
One person is currently responsible for everything published on this site. This page explains that role, what it is not, and how content review will work as the site grows.
Founder & Editor
Before You Apply editorial desk
Everything on this site is researched, written and edited in house by the site's founder and editor, who is responsible for the accuracy of everything published under the Before You Apply name.
Before You Apply is a trading name used by an independent UK sole trader established in Scotland. It is not a company and is not FCA authorised. No editorial reviewer has been appointed yet, and no qualifications, credentials or endorsements are claimed for anyone.
We are not mortgage advisers
Before You Apply is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and is not a mortgage adviser, broker or lender. We provide educational preparation resources only. We do not give mortgage advice, recommend lenders or products, assess eligibility, arrange mortgages or introduce you to advisers. If you need advice about your own circumstances, contact a suitably qualified FCA-authorised mortgage adviser directly.
No professional qualification, regulatory permission or firm affiliation is claimed for anyone writing for this site. None will be claimed unless and until it is genuinely held and can be verified.
Independent editorial reviewer to be appointed
Before content review can be described as independent, a named, suitably experienced reviewer needs to be appointed and identified here, with their role and remit made clear. That has not happened yet. Until it does, all guides are marked as reviewed internally, or not yet reviewed, and no claim of independent review is made.
No customer testimonials published yet
We have not published any customer testimonials, star ratings or review quotes, and we will not invent any. If testimonials are collected in future, they will be genuine, attributed appropriately, and clearly dated.
How review is intended to work
Every guide on this site already carries an author, a reviewer field, a drafted-on date and a review-due status, visible at the top of the page. At the moment, most guides are drafted by the editorial team and marked as not yet independently reviewed, because that is the truthful current state.
The intended process, once an independent reviewer is appointed, is:
- A guide is drafted, checked against available sources, and any unverifiable claim is removed rather than softened.
- The reviewer reads the draft for accuracy and for anything that strays into advice rather than education.
- The guide is published showing the reviewer's name, the review date and a review-due date for its next check.
- Readers can report a suspected error at any time through our contact page, which is treated the same way as a scheduled review.
This page will be updated the moment any of this changes: when a reviewer is appointed, when the first independently reviewed guide is published, or when a testimonial is genuinely collected and displayed.
