Corrections policy
Reporting and correcting errors
We would rather know about a mistake than not. This page explains how to tell us about one, what happens next, and how we record corrections publicly.
How to report an error
Use the contact page and choose the enquiry type for content corrections. Please tell us the page URL, the specific text you think is wrong, and why, with a source if you have one. That is usually enough for us to investigate quickly.
What happens next
- Your report is read personally and checked against our sources or the original claim.
- If the report is correct, the page is updated as soon as reasonably possible.
- Depending on what was wrong, we apply a correction, a clarification or a retraction (defined below).
- We do not promise a specific response time, because this is currently a one-person editorial operation, but every report is looked at.
Definitions
Correction
A factual error is fixed in the text itself, for example a wrong figure or an outdated term.
Clarification
The original text was not wrong but was ambiguous or easily misread, so wording is tightened to remove that risk.
Retraction
A claim cannot be supported at all and is removed from the page rather than edited down.
Published corrections
Published corrections: none yet. This site has not published any content long enough to have logged a correction. Once one occurs, it will be listed here with the date, the page affected and a short description of the change, rather than quietly edited away.
